JAG, Coverdell's formula grants and Homeland Security grants reach West Virginia agencies through state offices. Here's who runs each one, how to reach them, and what West Virginia gets this year.
The state office applies for West Virginia's share and sub-awards it to local agencies. Larger cities and counties also get their own direct award from BJA.
Formula grants go to the state office, which funds labs and ME offices across West Virginia. The competitive track is separate: a lab applies to BJA itself.
No state office: each government in West Virginia that runs an eligible public DNA lab applies to BJA itself. All of West Virginia's labs share one estimated pool and must coordinate their requests.
The state administering agency receives it and must pass at least 80% to local and tribal governments. Purchases have to support terrorism preparedness, and equipment must be on FEMA's list.
Every other program we track, including SAKI, the NIJ research grants, ME/C Strengthening and the competitive DOJ programs, is applied for directly with the federal agency, not through West Virginia. See when each one opens →
